Is This Literature?

Bob Dylan’s Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech

Course: Word and Image II
Date: Fall 2019
Goal: To take two texts, one speech and one supplemental text, and design a book in which they work together to create a narrative.

For this project I used Bob Dylan’s Nobel Prize acceptance speech alongside an article from Rolling Stone about why Bob Dylan deserved his Nobel Prize. The inspiration for my book design was the way in which Bob Dylan’s Nobel Prize in literature represented a break from literary tradition, and how his speech questions the idea of what literature is. I printed and bound this book myself. I used accordion style binding because, well, it’s all about music!
